How to configure snmpv3 in Juniper EX-Series Device

SNMP Introduction

SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is a standard protocol which help to collect the information about managed devices in network and about the informations/Traps of the devices .

Synopsis

This article will provide  to configure the SNMP Version 3 (SNMP V3)   on Juniper JUNOS devices. 

 

Configuration

     To configure the Hostname of Juniper Device , Please follow the below steps :-

 1) Login the switch

login: username
password: 

 2) Once you will login the switch , You will be enter in Operational mode

root>

 3) Go to Configuration mode from operational mode

root>configure 

root# 

 4) Create user for SNMP 

root# set snmp v3 usm local-engine user motadata authentication-none         

root# set snmp v3 usm local-engine user SNMP-USER authentication-md5 authentication-password SNMP-USER-PASSWORD
root#set snmp v3 usm local-engine user SNMP-USER privacy-none

5) Create SNMPV3 Group to define the read and write access to the information specified in view SNMPVIEW.

root#set snmp v3 vacm access group SNMPV3Group default-context-prefix security-model any security-level none read-view SNMPVIEW
root#set snmp v3 vacm access group SNMPV3Group default-context-prefix security-model any security-level none write-view SNMPVIEW
root#set snmp v3 vacm access group SNMPV3Group default-context-prefix security-model any security-level authentication read-view SNMPVIEW
root#set snmp v3 vacm access group SNMPV3Group default-context-prefix security-model any security-level authentication write-view SNMPVIEW
root#set snmp v3 vacm access group SNMPV3Group default-context-prefix security-model any security-level privacy read-view SNMPVIEW
root#set snmp v3 vacm access group SNMPV3Group default-context-prefix security-model any security-level privacy write-view SNMPVIEW

6) Create Security Name and called the snmp Group to security group.

root#set snmp v3 vacm security-to-group security-model v2c security-name SNMPSECURITY group SNMPV3Group
root#set snmp v3 vacm security-to-group security-model usm security-name SNMPSECURITY group SNMPV3Group
root#set snmp v3 vacm security-to-group security-model usm security-name SNMPSECURITY group SNMPV3Group
root#set snmp v3 vacm security-to-group security-model usm security-name SNMPSECURITY group SNMPV3Group

7)Create SNMP view that specifies that the users will be able to access all the Junos device's OIDs. 

root#set snmp view SNMPVIEW oid .1 include

8)Create SNMP Community and call the snmp security in community. 

root#set snmp v3 snmp-community SNMPCOMMUNITY community-name SNMPCOMMUNITY
root#set snmp v3 snmp-community SNMPCOMMUNITY security-name SNMPSECURITY

9)Save the Configuration. 

root#commit
